9th Year Annual Celebrations & Cultural Events - Updates

Noolaham Foundation’s 9th Year Annual Celebrations & Unique Cultural Events was held in a grand scale in Ramakrishna mission Hall, Wellawatte on the 4th of January 2014 with more than 800 spectaculars. The occasion commenced at 4.05 pm with the Tamils’ tradition of lighting the oil lamp and was followed up by the ‘Thamilthaai Vaalthu’ song. Miss. A. Janani, Communication & Public Relation Officer of Noolaham Foundation, addressed the gathering and Mr. S. Seran, Director of Noolaham Foundation, delivered the director’s note. First part of ‘Thenthuruva Salangai’ dancing event was staged by the students of Nrithakshetra School of Indian Classical Dance, Australia under the choreography of Mrs. Shanthy Rajendran who is the head of the institution.

Nextly, Mr. S. Mayuran, Volunteer Team Coordinator and one of the active members of the publication team for the TDC research book containing 48 research articles named, ‘Tamil Documentation Conference – 2013 Aaivuk Katturaik Kovai’ and the Noolaham Foundation’s annual magazine, delivered the editor’s note. It was then followed by the TDC research book release. The first copy of the book was handed over to the Board of Directors of Noolaham Foundation by the publication team members and the special copies of the book were handed over to the VIPs and TDC book researchers. While the directors of Noolaham Foundation, Mr. G. Sasheevan and Mr. S. Seran and the Chief Programming Executive, Mr. S. Shanmugapriyan were receiving the first copies of the book, Prof. S. Mounaguru, one of the heads of eight forums at the Tamil Documentation Conference-2013 and also a professor of Eastern University, received the first special copy of the respective book. Many other VIPs and the research article contributors to TDC book were also honored by giving the special copies. The annual magazine for the year 2013 was also released during the occasion. It is obvious that most of the spectaculars bought the TDC book and received the annual magazine with much delight.

The official website for the virtual learning platform powered by the ‘MOODLE’ system was launched by Mr. R. Senthilkumaran at the event. Mr. K. Sureshkumar and Mr. T. Harishanth, coordinators of Pallikoodam project, gave a brief talk on Pallikoodam project and the work plans that have been carried out up to date. Besides, the book introduction of “Kaaviyach chalangai” of Pundit Sivanathan was also taken place. Meanwhile, refreshments were provided to the audience and they were well offered with hospitality by the organizing committee.

‘Thenthuruva Salangai’ part-2 which was choreographed as the epics of Ramayana was enjoyed a lot by the audience. Mrs. Shanthy Rajendran was felicitated with a golden shawl by Mrs. Saatviga Shasheevan and honored by the name of “Niruthiya Jothy” for her untiring service to fine arts by Prof. S. Mounaguru while Mr. S. Seran, Director, was declaring it to the audience. The distribution of certificates to the students of Nrithakshetra was also taken place.

Nextly, the vadamodi drama of ‘Ravanesan’ choreographed by Prof. S. Mounaguru was staged by the students of Batticaloa Theatre Lab. It should be mentioned that this performance received a standing ovation and a big round of applause from the audience. Prof. S. Mounaguru was felicitated with the golden shawl and honored by the name of “Eelathu Kavinkalaik Kaavalar” by Dr. Nithyananthan while Mr. S. Seran, Director, was declaring it to the audience. Further, the distribution of certificates to the students of Batticaloa Theatre Lab and their introduction to the audience were held. The announcement by Mr. T. Suganthan and Miss. S. Aarani of the events according to the agenda in an organized manner and in their own way of presenting was admired by all. Finally the occasion came to an end at 8.50 pm with the vote of thanks by Mr. T. Harishanth.

The event was a remarkable victory in the history of Noolaham Foundation and it is believed that the distinguished service rendered by the Noolaham Foundation to the Sri Lankan Tamil speaking community will reach everyone and be remembered forever.
